The Power of Little Things: How Small Moments Shape Our Lives
The importance of small deeds. They add up.
"Little Things"
by Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney
Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land.
Thus the little minutes,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.
Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Help to make earth happy
Like the heaven above.
So our little errors
Lead the soul away
From the path of virtue
Far in sin to stray.
The poem "Little Things" by Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney stresses how small actions can lead to important results. It shows that little things are often ignored but are essential for bigger, significant outcomes.
It asks us to think about how powerful small contributions are in our lives and the world we live in.
Think about how an immense ocean is made up of many drops of water. Each drop might seem unimportant alone, yet they collectively create the vast sea. Likewise, tiny grains of sand combine to make beautiful beaches and land we walk on. The poem points out that every minute of our lives adds to the continuous flow of time. These small, ordinary moments accumulate into something much larger than themselves, forming a lifetime and, beyond that, historical ages and the universe.
The value of kindness and love is highlighted. Small acts or kind words can uplift someone's spirit and make life joyful. Carney says we can do small things to create a positive change. Rather, those little moments of care and love bring happiness to ourselves and others.
The poem also gently warns us that small mistakes can steer us off course. Even minor missteps can accumulate, leading us away from our values or desired life. This idea urges us to be mindful of our actions, including the small ones. Just as good deeds create a better world, small errors can gradually take us from our intended path, causing regret or difficult consequences.
Allan, this is a wonderful article, and the poem and you are absolutely right: small things such as even the most minor of acts of kindness are gigantic and can have a huge impact on others. Thank you for this gentle reminder.
I know about the small little deeds in life. I've helping people my whole life. In my 50 years of living, I have always made everyone a priority over myself. One person may have bad thoughts about you because you haven't contributed to their cause. I pick and choose the charities that matter the most to me. Those charities are ones that consist of helping children. Another charity I love giving to are ones that give to Army veterans and families. I give charity to Hillsdale College because it's the last college to be privately funded and it's basis is on the constitution of the United States. I give to all kinds of local charities. The most important part of this is. I'm not rich at all. But I still give. I give way more than most people. But when I give it makes me happy. So I'm sorry, if I don't give to your charity I apologize, but saving a child at St. JUDES CHILDREN'S Hospital is more important to me than anything! Thank you! Go's bless!
