Aaron Copeland's work, Appalachian Spring, fills me with inspiration as I hope it will do for you. I personally need the energy and inspiration of Copeland's extraordinary musical composition. It fills me with encouragement and even joy. I love the energy of the work.
I am a person who easily comes to feel pessimistic when things in the nation in the world go wrong. At present, when we are dealing with tariffs being sharply raised on other countries who are retaliating with their tariffs, creating the very real danger that our prices will greatly increase for everyday products. In addition, I already know some people who are extremely upset because their savings in the stock market have been destroyed. They wanted to provide this money to their children and grandchildren as an inheritance, and they were filled with despair because of the terrible events.
But I feel much better when I listen to certain types of music. One of those pieces is the Appalachian Spring. I hope all of you, the listeners and readers of this essay, come to feel the same way. Copeland was an extraordinary American composer. Let us enjoy His energetic and inspirational music.
Copeland created this wonderful work to capture the feeling and spirit of life in America, especially the simple beauty and hopeful energy found in the countryside and mountains.
When you listen to Appalachian Spring, you can almost feel the sunlight breaking through clouds or picture fields full of flowers gently swaying in the breeze. Copland's music tells a story of everyday people, their joys, dreams, and quiet struggles. It speaks warmly and softly to the listener, like an old friend who understands you without saying a word.
Appalachian Spring beautifully reflects American enthusiasm, energy, and hopefulness in a gentle yet powerful way. This music is distinctly American in spirit, capturing optimism, openness, and a deep belief in new beginnings. Listening to it, you sense the joy and energy of a young nation full of dreams and possibilities.
Copland's music stimulates images of wide-open spaces, pioneer courage, and simple, honest joy. He expresses American enthusiasm through vibrant rhythms and uplifting themes that suggest movement and progress, much like the nation itself, always looking ahead with hope.
Appalachian Spring is a reminder that America's heart and spirit have always held onto a hopeful vision of life. It reassures us that there is still goodness, generosity, and resilience in people, qualities that continue to carry us forward, even in troubled times.
So, when we hear Appalachian Spring, we don't just listen to notes. We hear the enthusiasm, optimism, and boundless energy of a nation believing in brighter days ahead, no matter the challenges. It remains an inspiring and comforting reminder that hopefulness and joy are woven deeply into the American spirit.
Copland wrote Appalachian Spring during a difficult time, at the end of World War II, when people needed hope and comfort more than ever. His music reminded them and continues to remind us that even in hard times, there is beauty in life, joy in simple moments, and strength in community and family.
In the end, Appalachian Spring is more than just music. It is a beautiful reminder of the goodness and grace found in everyday life, something we all need to be reminded of daily.
Very beautiful and joyful. Uplifting. Thank you Allan.
Last November, I switched from watching the news 24/7 to watching YouTube videos of music and scenery worldwide. Yes, I keep an eye on what's happening, but I am much more focused on the beauty I see there than the horrors on the news.
