Change isn’t as easy as they say - I'm finding. I could make the necessary physical changes but hadn't counted on the enormous emotional toll it continues to take.
Hi Allan! I'm a retired physician/psychiatrist/author of "Stress R Us", and a Long COVID (2019!), as well as prostate cancer survivor and recovered alcoholic. All four x-wives and 4 children have chosen not to communicate with me and I am so grateful. No responsibility for their problems. I have downsized from a 28 rm 7 BR 1911 Georgian Revival mansion to my current 1 BR student apt., from 23,000 books to about 500, but spend 10 hrs./d kibbutzing on the net, like now. I do not do well with others, who bore the hell out of me. Everybody I know has some lingering COVID symptoms and balance problems are prominent. I'm nearly 80 and look forward to my escape from this orb with joy, not dread. I have spent a life in medicine/psychiatry and have no regrets, no lingering resentments, and feel loved every time I'm in the natural world, away from humans. I'm an only child and grew-up alone in central Ohio, with parents who were both abandoned by their opposite sex parent due to untimely death, and I am childhood sexual abuse survivor, which was the source of my need to escape through alcohol/marijuana. 12-step groups and practice relieved all of that, but I graduated and am no longer a "true believer". You may enjoy my essays on "Greeley'sNewsletter.substack.com". I wish you all the best and I pray you find every pot hole in life another gift to a higher understanding of this journey of life, as have I. Have a blessed day! Namaste'
Allan, I am sorry to read that you are having a hard time adjusting to your new senior community. I can fully related to how such changes can be disconcerting and unsteeling. You are very much in my thoughts. You can email me any time.
Thank you Allan: I really appreciate your honest sharing of the transitions you are making. Bless you mate.🙏🏼
