The GOP is the anti-science party. Anti-research, anti-vaccines, anti-climate change and a lot more.

The inherent irony in your title cannot be overlooked. You speak of "defending" science, even while the administration is "defunding" science. The harsh, ugly truth is that science is an effective refutation of Trumpista/MAGAtista ideology and explains why we should NOT "drill, baby, drill," overturn regulation on clean air and clean water, engage in the quest for rare minerals/gas/oil without concern for the environmental consequences, etc.

I took all three sciences in high school and managed honors in biology. I met the most amazing young woman in Biology and we have now been friends over 30 years. At 53 I bought two digital microscopes and sent her one. All I can say about science can be summed up in this: my middle name, a mystery for most of my life came from Star Trek.

Distrust and ignorance is the engine that drives despair. Personally, I sometimes feel hopeless about the political climate in our country. Other times I feel sad for the very people who propagate conspiracy theories and other untruths. It would seem they believe the lies they tell themselves and others.

Thank you for a great message.
