I love "Everybody's Talkin'"- I feel like it represents my life and has for a long while.
I've been experimenting with using earbuds more in my everyday life, and it helps dealing with that. Other than trying to deal with modern media. The default setting for most movies and TV shows, particularly on streaming, seems to be WE ARE GOING TO PLAY THIS THING SO FUCKING LOUD YOU CAN'T AVOID HEARING IT. As an autistic person, I have noise sensitivities that these people clearly don't give a fuck about, but, at the same time I still want to experience the media other people are doing without having to resort to the mute button, because I would miss out on important things like dialogue delivery and musical elements due to that. I really am confused about this.
So true! Multitudes of people are already feeling lonely and disconnected, and "plugging in" is another way to "check out". We are growing further apart and becoming more isolated... while living in crowded, busy environments.
Sony Linkbuds have holes in them to allow outside sound inside. It also stops playing when you speak and can be turned back on by tapping your head (no kidding check it out)

I fully understand

Not all earbuds block talk.
