Thanks for this. In East Paterson we had the milkman, the breadman and the seltzer man. Most memorable is Mr. Singer, the seltzer man, who would deliver new bottles and pick up the used ones to be regassed and refilled.
Maybe, no, probably we did have a milkmna. We lived in Baltimore then.. But I remember the iiceman, who carried in huge blocks of ice for our icebox. I seem to remener s little sawdust. This is why i hasve never called it a refrigerator, I sitll call it the icebox.
I was born and Baltimore until we moved to New York City when I was three. All of my father's side of the family stayed in Baltimore. And I remember the iceman and the ice box just as you describe. Memories, good memories.
Your article brought back sweet memories. I remember a horse drawn milk wagon with blocks of ice to keep the milk cold. The milkman was my friend and I would visit him each day he came by.

Omg I forgot. Thanks for jogging my memory. I remember that and those old seltzer bottles.
Allan- I really appreciate the way the 'bottles clinking' really rings here. Hope you're well, Allan. Cheers, -Thalia
Thank you and I am well. Hope you are well too.
