Happy Hanukkah, Allan, to you and your family. Because I have some very famous Rabbis as ancestors, genealogists have determined that we are descended from the Tribe of Judah.

Actually I think I'm wrong about the tribe of Judah but I'm not sure.

Marc now I remember. I come from the house or tribe of Israelites and those of course were the common people. If I remember correctly, the house of Judah, what is the higher class or highest my memory of these things has faded because it’s been so very long. But bring in more recent generations there have been a lot of rabbi’s on my father’s side of the family. My brother was very successful physician, but then he got cancer and was forced to retire and underwent a very difficult damaging chemotherapy and and the works all of it and so in the end, he studied and became a rabbi. He is six years older than I am. From his childhood he was sent to yeshiva and had an orthodox education. I went to public school and had a good education, but of course it was public school and it was not immersed in religion. My friends tell me I was lucky and I think they’re right.

My Dad said we too were Israelites. However, my mom was a Diskin. The Maharial Diskin (Jehoshua Lieb Diskin) is a very famous person in Jewish history. Many books have been written about him and his family from which my mother was descended. They originally came from Belarus and their ancestry was traced back to the Tribe of Judah if I remember correctly.
