‘Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.’ – Plato
I would also put in a vote for at least two other masterpieces: Sonata #29 in B-flat Major, Op. 106 ("Hammerklavier"), with its sublime slow movement, and also the Sonata #9 in A Major for Violin and Piano ("Kreutzer" -- who never played the work!), Op. 47, which is truly "a gift from the gods."
