Allan, thanks for this essay. Candidly, I never have been able to appreciate poetry except when it is set to music (eg “hello darkness my old friend”). Your column inspires me to set aside my prejudice and to look at poetry again as simple and beautiful expressions of deeply-held emotions.

Marc i’m very concerned about the explosion of videos on Substack. I had thought of this platform as a place for us to write and to read. In my opinion, videos have no place here. We are bombarded by videos everywhere. Please advise about what we might be able to do about this this thing that I see as a problem. Thanks.
