I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, and at 86 years old, I have a lot more to learn.

An excellent essay, Allan. Research has shown that the two best ways for older people to delay or possibly prevent cognitive decline is to learn a musical instrument and learn a foreign language. I learned Spanish with a tutor and mandolin with a music teacher. In NJ I can practice Spanish almost everywhere. I put down the mandolin for a few years due to hand surgery but I will resume after we move to Virginia in four weeks.
